Harmless, ChemFree+ is an natural weed control and fertilizer for lawns and gardens. It's a completely natural product derived from Corn Gluten Meal. ChemFree+ controls emerging annual weeds such as crabgrass, dandelions, etc. and provides essential nutrients. ChemFree+ is water soluble, so it decomposes over time to provide nitrogen and other nutrients for your lawns and gardens…
ChemFree+ is harmless to people, pets groundwater, insects, soil microorganisms, etc.. Best of all it is scientifically proven effective. Researchers at Iowa State University have been studying this since 1985. A natural compound found in Corn Gluten Meal inhibits weeds from germinating In addition, Corn Gluten Meal acts as a slow-release fertilizer because it contains 10% nitrogen. While there are many natural/organic fertilizers on the market, this is the first product to also inhibit weeds. ChemFree+ is a preemergent product that controls germinating seedlings. Therefore it is harmless to plants with established root systems. It can be used on lawns, vegetables transplants, flower beds, and ornamental plantings, etc..

1985, a research project was begun at Iowa State University by award winning scientist Dr. Nick Christians. His experiments led to the development of ChemFree+,
a natural product for weed control made from 100% corn gluten meal.
Corn gluten meal is a by-product of the wet-milling process and is sold as a feed material for cattle, poultry, and other livestock. It has been used in fish food for commercial fish production and is also a primary ingredient in many dog food products. Corn gluten meal is produced as a fine yellow powder for easier application to the soil.

University researchers at Iowa State University, while testing corn gluten meal as a natural fertilizer, discovered that amino acid chains abundant in this material prevent secondary roots from developing properly in germinating seeds, providing excellent preemergent weed-control.
Corn gluten meal is composed of 10% nitrogen. Nitrogen is a valuable plant nutrient responsible for the vivid green color of healthy plants. The nitrogen in ChemFree+ is in a natural slow-release form. This means it becomes available to the plants over an extended period of time, so it will not burn your lawn and garden plants. Applying ChemFree+ not only controls weeds but contributes to healthier plants and soil.

- Spread around bedding plants, transplants, flowers or shrubs and rake in lightly.
- Spread evenly on lawns. Avoid any bare spots where reseeding grass.
- Water in if there is no rain
Two weeks before target seeds are germinating. Since many weed seeds will germinate Spring and Fall of the year, we usually try to time applications around the two times of the year when maximum germination is expected. Biological indicators can also help you determine when to apply.
Two weeks before the first Crocus, early Daffodils, and blooming tulips, signal that soil temperatures are at an ideal level for germinating seeds.
- In August when the temps turn cooler. Remember - many weeds germinate six or more months of the year, so additional maintenance applications will be rewarded with fewer weeds.
: Spread with a Broadcast Spreader. Rate: 20lbs./1,000 Square Feet. Beds and Gardens: Spread by hand after weeding. You can top-dress, but for maximum results, work ChemFree+ into just the first inch of soil at the standard rate of 2-6 pounds per 100 square feet. Repeat anytime you cultivate the soil (hand-weeding or otherwise).
: Water in if there is no rain. Then allow area to dry for 2-3 days. Plants need dryness for ChemFree+ to effectively kill emerging weeds.
